Jūratės karūna
Jūratės karūna means Jūrate's crown in Lithuanian. The vase got its name from the famous Lithuanian tale called "Jūratė and Kąstytis". Jūratė is a goddess of sea who fell in love with a human sailor. Upon learning this, the god of thunder, Perkūnas, became enraged and destroyed Jūrate's amber palace, condemning Kąstytis to death as well. It is said that since then, the Baltic Sea throws the remains of this palace - amber pieces, and waves still echo with Jūrate's wailing. The vase is a symbol of Jūratė - the divine bearer of pure love. The shape of the vase with its creature-like waving horns resembles the life forms of the underwater world monumentally frozen in the image of the crown - the crown of the sea goddess.
This one of a kind ceramic piece is entirely handbuilt & handcrafted. The surface is kept raw, unglazed, leaving the natural texture of rough chamotte clay sensible. Glazed inside. High-fired at 1200°C. Suitable for placing dried flora. Not recommended for water storage.
